What is happening in my studio these days....

These days, I am working on an evening gown inspired by Post Impressionist artist Christian Rohlfs. I was specifically inspired by this piece...
I really loved the colors and, I felt it was very Post Impressionist because of the brush strokes. I decided to create an evening gown that would reflect the brush strokes some way. Here's a rough sketch of the garment I am creating.
It's hard to see the details, but the garment has layered chiffon strips of fabric going from the shoulder to the hem of the dress. It's all made of chiffon, silk, and silk organza, and I kept it monochromatic with navy and blues.

Just to show you a bit of the process so far, here are some pictures of the pattern making, fabric cutting, and now sewing of the dress, hopefully I can post a final picture once the garment is complete.

Stories and Themes 2012

I know that many say everything has been done before and fashion just repeats itself, but I don't agree completely. I see these amazing designers incorporating new technology into their designs that hasn't been done before. Silhouettes that are modern and different than anything were used to seeing. In these two storyboards I show a bit of my inspirations that are new on the 2012 runway.

Fashion Influence 2012

2012 will be about American Pride...

I'm not a trend forecaster at all, but I've been seeing a lot of blues and reds lately. I can't help but relate that to the current events going on in our country. We have elections coming up, our troops are coming back home, our economy is still a working progress, but it's progressing. So.. with all those events, I feel that we are getting back to our roots, our American roots. In a speech President Obama gave a few weeks back, he made a point of telling us we need to support those manufacturers that create jobs here and not overseas. I think that is very true, many of our items are made in China, Italy, India, etc. With all this unemployment, we have to bring manufacturing back home.

A few examples in fashion that reflect our American pride... on the runway, in stores, and American manufacturers

Rucksack at UNT Denton

At any university, a backpack is essential, here at UNT a backpack can be stylish as well. The rucksack seems to be very popular on campus, it's a classic shape, but I've also seen it come in different fabrics and colors.

Cool & Classic
Fun & Funky
